Welcome - Croeso
The Cavaliers
cricket ethos is all about playing cricket with a capital F (for fun).
If that describes your approach to the game then take a look at our site
and see if you'd like to join us.
About the Cavaliers
We were formed in 1978 as a Post Office team. Over
the years the club became “open” and is now known as the “Cardiff
Cavaliers”. A number of founder members continue to be involved –
some of whom still play!
Mid-week
we play in the Willow League. Although competitive in nature, with
trophies up for grabs, the League aims to reflect the spirit of the game
and matches are played in good humour. In 2003, in our 25th
Anniversary season, we won the Cup, continued with silverware in 2004 by
winning the Plate competition, repeated this achievement in 2005 and
again in 2009.
In 2007 we
reached the Cup Final again and were also unbeaten in the Cup during our
30th anniversary season in 2008 (the final was held over to 2009 but
then ultimately shared due to poor weather.) During the winter we play
indoors and were the inaugural champions of the Willow Indoor Cricket
(WIC-ket) Trophy in 2008.
We also
play several friendlies mid-week, mainly in the second half of the
season, including the annual “Ashes” series against Chartered Trust and
for the “C&H Trophy” against Highways Hurricanes. Our weekend
friendly fixtures see us travel in and around the Valleys where the
matches are hard fought but always played with good humour and we have a
fun social time.
The annual
tour on the first weekend in August has taken us to various locations –
from Chester to Torquay, and from Carmarthen to Cheltenham. In 2008, our
30th anniversary, we journeyed overseas to Amsterdam. You can find out
more about the history of the club by visiting the
30th
anniversary and
Club History sections of this site.
The club carries public
liability insurance cover in the unlikely event that a member of the
public (or their property) is injured during an authorised club match.
