Match Report Chartered Trust (Shield), Monday 2 August CT 122/7 (18ovs, J Davies 3/18, Duffy 2/31). Cav 104/8 (18ovs, Graveson 37, Chapman 21, Duffy 13no). Lost by 18 runs. Cav 0pts, CT 2pts
The sun finally shone and the Cavaliers played their 3rd Plate game of the season. Cyril one the toss and decided to stretch the legs and have a bowl first. Garveson and McVeigh took the new cherry and as always put in a good shift. Mike particularly caused the openers problems with accurate line and length , only going for a staggering 9 runs of 3 overs. It was left to his partner in crime Graverson however to take the first wicket of the day. Liddell played a t a scorcher outside off stump, edged it and stand in keeper Steadman took a fine catch. The change brought Al (Doug the rug Bollinger) and Duffy to bowl. This is a notoriously hard time to bowl as the batsmen tend to go after the first change. Al bowled a good line an length and had a few good shouts for LBW turned down, (not from want of appealing!) Duffy also however picked up 2 wickets with McVeigh (used to be Teflon) taking a fine catch at long on and Cyril fielding an outstanding catch at extra cover. McVeigh went on to take another 2 catches to take his tally to 3 [Ed: just one shy of equalling the Club record for the most catches by an outfielder in a game] and threw a superb low flat throw in to help run out another. It certainly looks like he saved all of his fielding aces for this game! Having tied the opposition down slightly in the final 4 overs the Cavaliers had to chase 123 of 18 overs. McVeigh and Steadman opened and where both dismissed for 0 very early on in the innings. With JT and Cyril going relatively cheaply it was left to Chapman and Graverson to not only steady the ship but to try and get momentum on the scorecard. Both played some fabulous shots, Chapman hitting four 4’s on his way to 21 and Graverson yet again seeing the ball like the proverbial beach ball hitting two 6’s and 3 fours on his way to 37. Duffy and Sparkes ran very well and tried there best to bring home the bacon, however it was not to be. Champaigne moment: Cyril taking a thunderous low catch at extra cover Man of the match- Graverson for his efforts with both Bat and Ball. Team: Jimmy Marchant (capt), Jason Duffy (vice capt), Andrew Steadman (wkt), Michael McVeigh, Glenn Chapman, Andrew Graveson, Alasdair Fraser, Ross Bowen, Jeremy Sparkes, Jonathan Thomas, Jonathan Davies |
